About

Hungry Bear Cafe sits along Highway 120 in Big Oak Flat, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, seven days a week. It's become a regular fuel-up stop for travelers heading to or from Yosemite, holding a 3.8 rating across 623 reviews.

What to order

Reviewers keep coming back to the same favorites: avocado toast and biscuits and gravy for breakfast, and a bacon cheeseburger with fries for lunch that several call worth waiting for. Milkshakes come up often too, and there's an outdoor patio if you'd rather eat outside.

Good to know

  • Ordering: You order at a touch-screen kiosk rather than with a server, and meals come with disposable silverware — a setup built for travelers passing through rather than lingering.
  • Hours: Open 7:00 AM–9:00 PM daily.
  • Price: Moderate ($$).

Service can slow down during busy lunch stretches, so budget a little extra time if you're working around a Yosemite entrance schedule.

Excellent service. Very quick. I spilt my drink and the friendly waitress helped me immediately with a smile. Kids loved it.

Not sure if everyone was having a bad day in the cafe but the service was not pleasant…we had to wait a very long time for our food. After we finally got our food the chocolate milk ($4) and coffee… the coffee was self serve and the carafe had a plastic lid so when I went to use it not much coffee came out. I let the person know it was empty and she said “no…and don’t break it…it is expensive…” Um I am a customer and most cafe’s serve the customer. Then when we finally got our food they were “out of forks..” my husband was displeased. We felt like the cafe was not friendly and the food was not good. Do we crave the food? Nope.. sorry Hungry Bear you may have cute decorations…but that is about it.

Service was okay, but the fish and chips had so much oil and the fish was overcooked. Do not recommend.
