Honestly this place completely surprised me. I went in not really knowning what to expect and left feeling like I just had the best meal of my life. The service was warm and genuine, not pushy or fake at all, and everything tasted like someone actually cared about making it. I will definately be coming back next time im in the area.

My wife and I recently visited The Elderberry House for dinner. We ordered the three-course petite pre-fixe menu ($125 per person) along with two non-alcoholic cocktails, bringing our total bill to $400. We enjoy fine dining and understand the standards expected at this price point, but unfortunately, the meal was a letdown. The two stars are entirely for the staff, who were excellent and professional throughout the evening. Here is a breakdown of the food: 0) Amuse-Bouche: An oyster with a nice presentation, but nothing memorable in terms of taste. 1) Ahi Tuna Crudo: The menu highlights jalapeño, horseradish, citrus, and sesame. While this was the most interesting dish of the night, it definitely needed more punch to actually bring those flavors forward. 2) The Mains (Miso Glazed Duck Breast & Olive Oil Poached Halibut): We tried both, and both were under-seasoned, lacking basic salt and spice. The duck plating was particularly confusing; the menu lists strawberry as a component, but the plate simply had two halved strawberries placed on the side. They felt like an afterthought rather than a cohesive part of the recipe. 3) Chocolate Torte: This was a complete disappointment. The menu notes espresso, caramel, and apple, but what arrived was essentially a very small chocolate mousse with a few caramel crumbles. We waited about 30 minutes for this course, and given the texture, we strongly suspect it had been frozen beforehand rather than prepared fresh. Lastly, the portion sizes were simply too small. While micro-portions make perfect sense in a 7- or 12-course tasting menu, applying those same sizes to a 3-course dinner does not work. Spending $400 for a dinner for two and leaving unsatisfied makes it very hard to recommend.
