Lower Yosemite Falls Trailhead

The Lower Yosemite Falls Trailhead puts you at the base of a waterfall that drops 2,425 feet, one of the most photographed sights in Yosemite National Park. From here you see the lower tier only — the upper falls stays out of view — but reviewers consistently rate the walk itself as the easiest way to get up close: paved, short, and accessible enough for wheelchairs and strollers, with most people covering it in about ten minutes.

What to Expect

The trail is fully paved with only gradual elevation gain until you reach the viewing area, and it crosses several other trails along the way, so watch for signage pointing toward the lower falls vista if that's your destination. On the way back, several unofficial spots let you step down to the creek — including near a bridge where the water moves slower than at the base of the falls, a popular place to dip your feet in. Dogs are welcome on the trail.

Getting There

A free Yosemite Valley shuttle stops right at the trailhead, and there's a restroom on site. If you're driving in rather than shuttling, note this side of the loop is a separate approach from the trailhead near the gift shop — both lead to the same falls, so following the posted signs matters more than which lot you start from. There's no dedicated parking directly at the trailhead, but it's a short walk from the main visitor center lot, and spots can be tight during peak season.
