Sunset view
A 5-star sunset and stargazing overlook near Mariposa
About
Sunset View is a scenic overlook near Mariposa built for one specific purpose: watching the sky change color as the day ends. Visitor reviews give it a perfect 5 out of 5, and the praise isn't generic — people come back specifically for how good the sunsets and star-filled nights are here.
What Visitors Say
One reviewer described it as a place where, when the clouds cooperate, the sunset can be "better than fireworks." That same review calls it a solid spot for stargazing once the color fades from the sky, and notes it's worth visiting on a regular basis rather than treating it as a once-and-done stop.
Good to Know
- Parking is limited — reviewers specifically flag this, so give yourself buffer time, especially if you're timing a visit around sunset.
- It gets windy — worth bringing a layer even if the day has been warm.

An absolutely great place to view a sunset. If the clouds are right. This can be better than fireworks. Not a bad place to Star watch either. Not exactly a ton of parking and it gets pretty windy but it's well worth visiting on a regular basis if you can
