So glad I went for a joyride today and headed west on the 140. Ended up with this amazing view of the 2025 Tule Fog.

A roadside pull-off on Highway 140 known for sunset views and winter fog.
Valley Viewpoint is a roadside pull-off on Highway 140 outside Mariposa, one of the quiet stops drivers use when climbing "the grade" toward Yosemite Valley. It's not a formal attraction with a visitor center or marked trail — it's the kind of spot locals learn from experience, and the 4.8-star rating across 9 reviews reflects how consistently it delivers on a wide, open view of the surrounding foothills.
Reviewers return to two themes again and again: sunsets and fog. Several visitors describe stopping specifically for the sunset light over the valley, while others mention the winter phenomenon of tule fog — the low-lying fog that settles into California's foothills and valleys — visible from above as it fills the terrain below while the viewpoint itself sits in clear air.
It's a pull-off along Highway 140 near Mariposa, on the climbing grade drivers take toward Yosemite Valley.
Reviewers favor sunset for the light over the valley, and winter mornings when tule fog settles into the terrain below while the viewpoint stays above it in clear air.
