About

Greys Mountain rises just outside Fish Camp on the edge of the Sierra National Forest, and the dirt road that climbs its flank has become one of the more popular routes in the Bass Lake trail network. It isn't a marked footpath through granite and giant sequoias like the trails inside Yosemite proper — it's a forest service road, and most people using it are on mountain bikes.

What the trail is like

The route runs about 7 miles across an elevation range of roughly 5,266 to 6,831 feet, a net change of around 1,600 feet. Trailforks rates the climb Blue (intermediate) — a steady grade on a loose dirt-and-gravel surface, walkable but built for two wheels. Riders typically treat the upper stretch as the climb and let gravity handle the descent back down.

Getting there

Greys Mountain sits in the Bass Lake Ranger District of Sierra National Forest, a short drive from Fish Camp and from Bass Lake itself. Either town works as a base — both put you minutes from the trailhead and close enough to Yosemite's South Entrance to add a valley trip the same day.
