Kamook Trailhead

Kamook Trailhead is the main staging area for the Miami Creek OHV Area, a network of forest roads and marked motorized trails in the Sierra National Forest, a short drive from Fish Camp and Yosemite's south entrance. This one is built for engines, not boots — it's the access point riders use to reach the wider Miami Creek trail system rather than a day-hike trailhead.

What You'll Find

The staging area sits close to the main road off Highway 41, which makes it more manageable to pull in with a truck and trailer or an RV than some of the more remote entry points in the area. From Kamook, trails and forest roads fan out with a range of difficulty — some wide and easy, others steep and rocky enough to challenge an intermediate rider. Come prepared to be self-sufficient: Kamook is the no-frills option of the two Miami Creek staging areas — its sister site, Lone Sequoia, has the better facilities, and the Forest Service doesn't list restrooms here. Dispersed camping is possible nearby, but expect primitive conditions.

Before You Ride

• The area is managed by the Bass Lake Ranger District of Sierra National Forest — call ahead for current trail and road conditions, and to confirm what's on site before you go.
• California requires OHVs to carry a Green Sticker (or be street-legal) to ride on national forest trails.
• This is a motorized-recreation trailhead, not a hiking route — plan accordingly if you're looking for a foot trail near Yosemite.
